Synopsis

»Legal Aspects and Limits of Aesthetic Surgery without Medical Need«The research deals with cosmetic physicians' criminal liability for aesthetic surgery procedures, asking for the meaning and consequences of the legal concept of »medical indication«. After introducing the leading ethical principles and highlighting aspects and limits of legal paternalism, the author puts emphasis on the concept of »informed consent« and its role in justifying medical professionals' doing. She then analyzes the special legal issue of aesthetic surgery on minor patients as well as the current (government) draft laws intending the prohibition of aesthetic surgery on patients under age. The appendix presents a compilation of important court judgements of the last decade concerning informed consent in aesthetic surgery.
