Wonders of the Invisible World Being an Account of the Trials of Several Witches Lately Executed in New England
Synopsis
Wonders of the Invisible World is a historical account written by Cotton Mather, documenting the infamous witch trials that occurred in New England during the 17th century. The book details the trials and executions of several individuals who were accused of practicing witchcraft and consorting with the devil. Mather, a Puritan minister, believed that the devil was actively working in the world and that it was the duty of Christians to root out and punish those who were in league with him. The book provides a chilling insight into the hysteria and paranoia that gripped the community during this time, as well as the extreme measures that were taken to stamp out the perceived threat of witchcraft. It is a fascinating and disturbing historical document that sheds light on one of the darkest periods in American history.1693. And of several remarkable curiosities therein occurring. Also found in this book is an observation upon the nature, the number and the operations of the Devil; a short narrative of a later outrage committed by a knot of witches in Swede-Land, very much resembling, and so far explaining, that under which New England has labored; some counsels directing a due improvement of the terrible things lately done by the unusual and amazing range of evil spirits in New England; and a brief discourse upon those temptations which are the more ordinary devices of Satan. Written in Old English. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
