Based on a pluralistic perspective on history the present volume understands historiography as embedded in narratives that produce collective meaning, for peoples and communities of states alike. How do we structure the past, how do we conceptualise change - and from which perspective? By tracing the evolution of its fundamental concepts through the ages, it will become palpable how historical reconstructions serve to shape our modern-day interpretation of international law.
