Synopsis

UNSUNG A collection of lyrics to some of singer/songwriter Paul Murphy's unperformed works. Mostly taken from 1993-1996, these are lyrics that were never recorded or played live, due in large part to their darker-edged themes. Songs of loneliness, alienation, self-doubt and self-recrimination, these are works that showcase the void that can appear out of nowhere in the galaxy of our lives, written with the honesty and poignancy of a master of the narrative genre. Surrounding these works, to place some lightness amongst the shadows, are some comedy numbers written at the time, and the volume closes on a heartwarming high with the inclusion of two freshly-written songs of faith and love, the positive-thinking anthem 'The Light In Taylor's Eyes' and the internet hit, 'Her Ballad'. Also included is an essay by Paul, 'There Are No Bad Days', detailing the backstory to this time in his life, and also emphasising how, even as the book was put together during his almost-complete paralysis from a muscle-wasting auto-immune condition, he was proactively "still fighting for another day" - that tomorrow can bring change, no matter how hopeless a situation might seem. Please note: this book contains material that addresses feelings that may distress; the purpose of this anthology is to show the battle against, and beating of, those feelings. 18+.
