This volume contains the proceedings of a conference on the protection and promotion of cultural heritage held in Florence on April 15-16, 2011, during the 13 th Cultural Week, in the Salone Magliabechiano of the Uffizi Library. The event was promoted by the Fondazione Spadolini Nuova Antologia in cooperation with the National Committee for the Celebration of the Centenary of the First Official Regulation on the Protection of Culture and with the Ministry of Culture. The conference was chaired by Roberto Cecchi, Maddalena Ragni, and Andrea Carandini. Contents include contributions by specialists (Antonia Pasqua Recchia, Maurizio Fallace, Luciano Scala, Giuseppe Sassatelli, Ruggero Martines, Marisa Dalai Emiliani, Ferruccio Ferruzzi, Giuseppe Pennisi, and Mario Docci), academics, and cultural personalities (Roberto Cecchi, Andrea Carandini, Cosimo Ceccuti, Giuseppe De Rita, Cristina Acidini, Maddalena Ragni, Ilaria Borletti Buitoni, His Excellency Giuseppe Betori, Alain Elkann, Stefano Grassi, Francesco Gurrieri, Antonio Paolucci, Giovanni Puglisi, Aureliano Benedetti, and Claudio di Benedetto).
