Whenever Roman architect Lucius is suddenly submerged in water, he surfaces to find himself in the land of the "flat-faces," a people whose appreciation for the public bathhouse matches that of even the mighty Romans! Though observing the strange practices of these foreigners has allowed Lucius to revolutionize the Roman bathhouse, Lucius has never been able to discuss their mutual love of bathing with a flat-face. Despite their advanced culture, it seems these flat-faces were never taught Latin! How could they, when Latin is considered a dead language in twentieth-century Japan?! But not completely dead . . . On one of his time travels, Lucius encounters a young researcher who is able to communicate with him in Latin! What will Lucius do when he realizes the truth of his visits to the flat-faced country?!
