Synopsis

The theology of religious speech continues to lead the transformation of modern theology. Folkart Wittekind shows that its object is not the individual's faith, but rather the process of communication in which religious meaning is originally established and interpreted. Religion is formed hermeneutically through differentiation and distinction from other linguistic cultures, which each carry with them their own reality. Religious speech enables certain language to bear religious meaning. Through personal address with religious speech, faith emerges simultaneously as a subject of the hermeneutic process. This causes religious speech to come alive by creating new symbols for religious language. The author shows how Christian faith in the triune God can be theologically interpreted to reveal how religious speech works.
