Theologie Der Zukunft: XVIII. Europaischer Kongress Fur Theologie (8.-11. September 2024 in Heidelberg)

From September 8 to 11, 2024, the XVIIIth European Congress of Theology took place in Heidelberg on the topic of Theology of the Future - the Future of Theology The ambiguity of this expression refers to two focal points of the topic that are to be linked: What does theology have to say about the future, and what might theology look like in the future? The major issues ranging from climate change, war, and pandemics to social and religious upheavals also challenge theology-as unpredictable as further developments may be. They force theology to undertake sustainable and critical reformulations of its eschatology, its discourse "on the last things." Theology can draw on a rich repertoire of traditions, from apocalypticism and millenarianism to eschatological forms of ecotheology, and now faces the task of examining, reconceptualizing, or rejecting these traditions. The contributions collected here document the congress with its main and section presentations and are at the same time a first step toward a necessary discussion within theology.
