This tragedy portrays the double bereavement of Cornelia: to the death of Metellus Scipio, her father, is added that of Pompey, her husband. Robert Garnier opposes the heroic defenders of the Roman Republic's liberty to the tyrannical Caesar, examining the question of good government in the troubled France of the last Valois kings.
