At sixteen, I was homeless, addicted, and sleeping in a cardboard box to escape abuse at home. By seveteen, I was in juvie. By twenty two I took a plea for fifteen years. The warning shot is the story of what came before prison, what happened inside, and the fight to build life after. It's about surviving rape, addiction, solitary confinement, and losing the one person who felt like family. It's about getting fired for a felony you didn't commit, losing your dream job because of your past, and choosing again and again without giving up. I've been to the point where everything turned white and the air disappeared. I've sat on a floor with a baton, deciding whether to end the cycle of violence or become it. I've been told I'd never be anything. But I got baptized, I got my CDL, I got my own apartment, and I wrote this book. This is for anyone who thinks their past owns them. It doesn't, God has a plan, even when it's hard. Even when it hurts, you will get through it.
