The Summer Hills

In 1920 young Maia Ibarra leaves her Basque homeland in Spain and crosses an ocean with a proxy marriage in hand. Bound to a man she doesn't know, her only asset as she sees it, is a dowry provided by her dead grandmother. Apparently Grandmother chose the husband, too, but because this man will control both her dowry and her future, can Maia trust him?
Presented as historical fictional memoir, The Summer Hills tells the story of Maia's life in America: of the people she meets and the land she grows to love, of marriage, of betrayal, of loss, and of one overriding secret that colors her existence. Events in her life from 1903 to 1992-family, marriage, friendship, children, work-blend into worldwide events-financial disasters, floods, fires, and wars-to complete Maia's story.
