Sometimes truth is the greatest illusion of all.

New York City, 1856: When Evelyn Atherton's husband is found murdered after attending an exclusive seance, Evie is the immediate suspect. Having married up into society, she is ostracized and alone, with only her husband's best friend to help her. With few other options, and her in-laws building a case against her, Evie delves into her husband's last days, determined to find his killer.

That means getting close to charismatic medium Michel Jourdain. Evie's instincts tell her that Jourdain is not to be trusted, but clearing her name means she must enter his seductive and mesmerizing world of channeling spirits and speaking to the dead.

The game is perilous, and Evie soon discovers not everything is as it seems. With time running out and no one to trust-not even herself, Evie realizes that she must face her own ghosts before she can find the truth not only about her husband, but about herself.
