A young doctor enters the U.S. military at the quiet end of the Cold War, expecting a career of steady medicine and controlled risk-but history has other plans. From the trauma wards of Cook County Hospital to the battlefields of Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and the shadow war of Operation Observant Compass, he is thrust into a world where life, death, and moral ambiguity collide daily.
