This book intends to explain the history of the Second Vatican Council, the controversies about the elaboration of the texts, the results of the Council, and the story of the Council's reception in the Roman Catholic Church. It does so independently of the various national contexts, but also without presupposing preceding information or knowledge about what a council is and what kind of authority it has; it is meant to be accessible all who are interested, Catholic and non-Catholic.
