Synopsis

For centuries, the tarot has fascinated human beings, as a divinatory tool, as great works of art, as a path to deeper understanding of ourselves and our place in the universe. Starting in 2024, author Derek Hunter has begun an ambitious project, of telling a story based on each individual tarot card, wherein the lead character represents the meaning behind the card. 30 short stories for 30 tarot cards (following a similar structure to one of the oldest decks in existence, the 15th century Mantenga Tarocchi, possibly conceived by Nicholas of Cusa, which has five sets of ten cards representing five aspects to existence). The first 10 books in The Human Drama will take place in modern day Los Angeles, the following 10 will take place in the future, and the remaining 10 will take place in the past, focusing on both famous and obscure people from history.

Part One - The Magician, the second tale following Part Zero - The Fool, follows Roger Osman Painter, Jack of All Trades, Master of None. While celebrating his 34th birthday with his lover Leonard on April Fools 2022, and also the 34th anniversary of Christian Death singer, poet, artist Rozz Williams' (born Roger Alan Painter) suicide, Roger performs a sex magick ritual with his partner. The intention: become a master of something, anything, and stop being a jack of all trades. Roger's choice: become a serial killer - something which his hero Rozz Williams flirted with - and that his victims would be rich Christian men who had molested underage boys and girls. Dive into Roger Osman Painter's tale to see just what happens on this malefic journey of his.
