The Fire of the Magi

Heinrich Khunrath (1560-1605), the key alchemical mystical writer of the early 17th century, best known for his Amphitheatre of Eternal Wisdom, wrote another treatise 'De igne magorum', 1608, on the use of the Fire of the Magi in alchemy.

He presents this as the philosophical explanation of the secret, external, visible fire and flame of the ancient Magi or wise men, and other true philosophers,
and explores the special fire ignited from heaven or the spiritual world, as opposed to common or mundane fire. He shows how this magical fire, often ritually lit from the rays of the Sun, was used in the ancient mystery religions, but indicates that it is essential to use this source of fire in the alchemical process of making the Philosophers' Stone.
