The Economy of British Central Africa: A Case Study of Economic Development in a Dualistic Society

The Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland encompasses two distinct forms of economic organization: the western money economy introduced with European trade and settlement and the indigenous economy, based largely on traditional agriculture. By examining the interaction of the two economies, as well as considering certain political and social issues that have had a forceful impact on the Federation's economic life, the author fills a serious gap in our economic knowledge.
