The Book of Elie
Synopsis
The Book of Elie is the memoir of Elie Khoury from 1958 until 1969. During that time, though Lebanese, Elie was a young man who had been drafted into the Egyptian army. His family was Muslim but he had converted to Christianity, and his faith was very strong, so strong that the miraculous things described in this book occurred. When in a Lebanese church praying throughout the night he was visited by Jesus, who gave him several messages: The year was 1959 but he was to tell the Israelis that they would be successful in their war with the Arabs in 1967. Jesus also told him that he would be returning soon. Elie had a number of adventures until he was apprehended by the Egyptian army, and he spent much of the next ten years in Egyptian prisons where he was routinely tortured. Eventually he was released and was able to continue his life as a priest in Egypt and in the United States. He died in Los Angeles in 1998.
