A cynic might call Tesla's life a perfectly formed metaphor for US-European relations. His dislike of the cultures of American interventionism led him to reject institutional American support for his research, but his unwillingness to accept it led to financial destitution. Although this is ultimately a work of fiction, its resonance in contemporary politics is clear.
