And the pixies, the pooka, the gnomes and naiads, the boggarts and brownies - European folklore fizzes with tales of wicked and winsome creatures of the woods. And while in many ways their power has waned - what is there for them in the urban, post-industrial, rubbish-strewn present? - our susceptibility to it has not.
