Teaching of English language through Code-Switching at Skardu

Communication plays a vital role in daily life. The mean of communication is effective when hearers get speakers' meanings. A speaker becomes more expressive and clearer when a speaker uses the technique of code- switching. This research aims to investigate the effective use of code-switching in the context of Skardu Baltistan. Baltistan is a multilingual society, and educational institutions are essentially bilingual and cannot be made free from the influence of bilinguality. Although many researchers have been worked on different fields but no such research was conducted to address in context of Skardu Baltistan to understand the reasons for teachers' code-switching between English and Balti in classroom discourse. Current study aims at investigating the effective use of code-switching (English and Balti) languages at intermediate level in skardu Baltistan. It deals that how Balti (native language) helps in learning and teaching. It also deals that how code-switching helps in teaching and learning. The method of this research was mixed method. Tools for present study are Questioners, voice recording and interviews. 120 students were selected from four targeted colleges.
