Synopsis

Stello unfolds as a dialogue between a doctor and a poet incapacitated by a "crisis of sorrow," one night in 1832, in which the Docteur-Noir recounts the deaths of three eighteenth-century poets, archetypes of the solitary martyr-like intellectual. This reference edition reconstructs the literary, historical, and social context of the novel.
