Synopsis

1. The re-discovery of the work of John Wieners continues, his poems and writings continue to be unearthed and brought to younger audiences. 2. Wieners is associated with the poets of the SF Renaissance, and studied under Robert Creeley, Robert Duncan, and Charles Olson, his mentor. He was a gay rights activist and most of his books are extremely rare, giving him a kind cult status as a significant figure of queer writing. 3. This edition collects 4 journals, the first written at a time before he was known in the Black Mountain circle of poets, and 3 more associated with his well-known style. Wieners is just as known for his journal writing as his poetry. 4. This volume is being released around the same time as an edition of Selected Works by Wave Books. Because it's hard to find books by Wieners, these two editions together are must-haves for anyone interested in his work.
