Something to Do: The Development of Peer Support Groups for Young Black and Minority Ethnic Disabled People

Isolation is a particular issue for young disabled people with many having limited opportunity to meet and make friends. For young disabled people who are of Asian, Caribbean and African origin, informal support groups provide a forum for emotional and practical support, enabling them to discuss issues around race, ethnicity, religion, and to share experiences with others from the same background. This report explores the development of these informal support groups. It is invaluable reading for those involved in social care, education, youth work and, especially, professionals involved in transition planning for young black and minority ethnic disabled people.
