Synopsis

Skeena Reece is a renowned Canadian First Nations artist whose multi-disciplinary practice includes such genres as performance art, photography, and video art. Reece's work uses humor and critique to take back power in indigenous communities. Of Cree, Tsimshian, and Gitksan descent, Reece considers issues of cultural heritage, resistance, and the harm of settler colonialism. This volume documents Reece's solo exhibition Honey and Sweetgrass held at James Madison University in 2021 and features an interview with Reece as well as critical essays on her work.
