Sainte Vergogne: Les Privileges De La Honte Dans l'Hagiographie Feminine Au Xiiie Siecle

Is it possible to imagine a stranger society than one that makes shame both an object of repulsion and an object of desire? The author examines this medieval paradox by exploring the life stories of around fifteen female saints from the thirteenth century from the perspective of a historical anthropology of emotions.
