Revelations of Divine Love: By Julian of Norwich
Synopsis
1373, Norwich, UK
A young woman of unknown birth and unknown family chose to live the secluded life of an anchorite. For her entire life, Julian lived alone in a cell, about 12 feet square. There, she dedicated herself to prayer. At 30 years of age, Julian falls dangerously ill. Those around her believe she is dying. She slowly loses all sensation. Her vision fades. Her heart is fixed on Heaven. In this moment, Jesus visits her. Over the next few hours and days, Julian experiences sixteen open visions, which she calls "Showings." Her devoted heart converses with Jesus, her beloved Lord and Savior. Much of what she sees is symbolic; some of it is strange. But all of these revelations serve to turn her passionate heart more perfectly toward Jesus Christ. She survives her illness. She recovers. And then Julian, anchorite of Norwich, spends the rest of her life adoring this God of perfect Love. This is her account. In this book she describes and explains, as best she can, these sixteen Revelations of Divine Love.
