Synopsis

This book tells the story of three young children, now in their

eighties, whose childhood was shattered by the murderous

Nazi regime in Zbaraz, a small township in Poland, now

Ukraine. Though born into loving families, they lost their

childhood, their families and their homes, at a very young

age. They also lost trust in the world being a safe place and

the idea that people are basically good. Fear and aloneness

became part of their day-to-day life. To varying degrees, all

three were traumatized.

Why did this happen?

It happened because they were born into a particular

religious/ethnic group. They were Jewish.

The book also recounts the work of some outstanding

individuals and organisations that took on the challenge of

helping these children and their families, and indeed the

remnants of the Jewish people, to survive the killings and

rebuild their lives.
