16-year old Joanna has run away to Spain looking for freedom and independence. Arriving in Madrid, she is looking forward to enjoying good food and experiencing the exotic Spanish culture. When she loses her money, her passport and her bag, however, she finds herself alone and hungry in a chaotic and intimidating city. But a chance encounter with the enigmatic Santiago, and his temperamental cat, doña Margarita, leads her to unexpected adventures and the chance to look at life from a different angle.
