Red Eagle and the Wars of the Creek Indians of Alabama

Red Eagle, also called William Weatherford, was Tecumseh's ally in Alabama. Although the son of a Scottish merchant, Weatherford chose to lead the Red Stick Creeks in Tecumseh's race war against the Anglo-Americans in the War of 1812. His effort began with the indiscriminate slaughter at Fort Mims and ended in his surrender to General Andrew Jackson. Red Eagle's peace, in which he abdicated his authority as a chief and remained in Alabama, is a legacy of honor among the very people he had so ruthlessly fought in 1814.
