Recent Advances in 3D Printing Technologies in Bioengineering With Selected Papers from the 29th Congress of the European Society of Biomechanics (ESB 2024)
Synopsis
"Recent Advances in 3D Printing Technologies in Bioengineering" is a reprint of a Special Issue in the Journal of Manufacturing and Materials Processing, which contains research articles in the field of Additive Manufacturing for Bioengineering by research experts on this topic from industry and academia from around the world. It also features extended versions of selected papers presented on this topic at ESB-2024 the 29th Congress of the European Society of Biomechanics (Edinburgh, Scotland, 30th June-3rd July 2024). Three-dimensional (3D) printing technology, also known as additive manufacturing (AM), has emerged as an attractive state-of-the-art tool for fabricating functional materials with precision and complex geometries and has demonstrated tremendous potential in bioengineering. This Special Issue reprint contains research articles that deal with cutting-edge technologies in various 3D-printing methods, including future strategies for developing materials and 3D-printed devices, such as: Additively manufactured polymer and hydrogel scaffolds for Biomedical use; Metal additive manufacturing for load-bearing orthopaedic implants; Geometric design and structure-function relationships in additive manufacturing; Biomechanical modelling and testing of spine and vertebral systems; Mechanical characterisation and performance validation of additively manufactured biomedical structures; Computational design, multiscale modelling and optimisation in biomedical additive manufacturing.
