Territorial disputes represent the main threat to global peace and security. From a legal point of view, however, they are generally of little interest. It is only in areas and spaces beyond national jurisdiction that they raise complicated and to a certain extent novel issues. These spaces include geographical areas like air, outer space and Antarctica, as well as virtual and ambiguous spaces like cyberspace, as well as cultural, neighbourhood, economic, political and legal spaces.
