Ríos

The stories told in this book are set in three rivers in northern Europe. In Aisne, in France, a man fights a battle against the elements and against himself; In Germany, through the Rodach, the Main and the Rhine, two rafter pursue a dream that lies too far away; in a remote valley of Brittany, a stream has confronted two families for centuries. These rivers, silent witnesses or involuntary agents of the happiness or misfortune of people, are a symbol of life, of civilization and openness to new horizons, but also symbolise the violence that nature entails. Sailing alongside this rivers, Martin Michael Driessen - one of the most outstanding contemporary Dutch authors - has managed to build three timeless stories which function as a parable about the virtues and weaknesses inherent in the human soul.
