Precious Bane

Prudence Sarn is a wild, passionate girl who was born during the Battle of Waterloo in the rugged countryside of Shropshire. Her "sweet bane" is a hare lip. Also, she is cursed for it by the superstitious people she resides with. Prue has two things she adores: the isolated region where she was born and the weaver Kester Woodseaves. The story of how Prue's brother, Gideon, a determined man who is out of tune with nature, plays a tragic role as Woodseaves learns to recognise Prue's true beauty.
