Alexander Hamilton wrote, in part, "...the passions of men will not conform to the dictates of reason and justice without constraint." Hamilton, born in poverty, rose to prominence because of his way with words, his skilled prose serving the war effort by enflaming a populace to take up arms. As the first Secretary of State, he created the new nation's system of taxation, the customs service, the National Mint, a national banking system, and much more.
