Synopsis

It is 1639. James Stanfield, eldest son of Salem-based

trader, Isaac Stanfield, leaves Bermuda on a merchantman

bound for Barbados. He reluctantly parts

from a childhood friend, who has just revealed her true

feelings for him.

He arrives in Barbados and discovers that

another old friend has been taken as a slave and the concubine

of a venal plantation owner. In attempting to rescue

her James is captured and disappears. Despair tinged with

hope builds as his family and friends seek to fi nd him.

Plantation is a tale of romance and adventure on land and

at sea. The setting is Barbados, the growth of its sugar cane

industry and black slavery.

The action follows James as he

meets and has to contend with a wide range of unforgettable

characters in uncompromising circumstances.
