Gegen die Geschichte des Verschwindens dieser ungeliebten Kategorie wird der Pathosbegriff in das spannungsvolle Verhaltnis von Ethos und Logos eingezeichnet, ausgehend von Aristoteles, in Auseinandersetzung mit Augustin, Thomas von Aquin, der deutschen Mystik und der lutherischen Theologie der Reformation sowie im Dialog mit der Phanomenologie unter anderem von Husserl und Waldenfels.
