Synopsis

In his global, long-term project planned for ap-
proximately 50 volumes since its inception in
2013-Peter Bialobrzeski questions whether
our mental image of a city, shaped by prejudi-
ce, preconception, and media representation,
can be translated into authentic visual records.
For these four newest volumes, Bialobrzeski
traveled to Donostia, Kigali, Palermo, and Tbili-
si. He focuses on the cultural nuances visible
within each cityscape, examining what has
been eroded by increasing globalization and
what remains distinct. Through his consistent
and seemingly objective visual language, this
epochal documentary experiment becomes vi-
vidly clear within each individual book and even
more compelling when compared across the
series.
