Ó Gaora was an important figure in the development of republicanism and the IRB in the west of Ireland, and On the Run is a fascinating record of that turbulent era in Irish history.

Ó Gaora gives a vivid account of the social and living conditions of the people of Connemara in the early years of the twentieth century, his time working as a Gaelic League organiser, his experiences as a member of the IRB and the Irish Volunteers, and the events he took part in during the War of Independence.
