Of Human Bondage by W. Somerset Maugham is a semi-autobiographical novel that follows Philip Carey, a sensitive and clubfooted orphan, as he searches for meaning and fulfillment in life. After trying various paths-studying art in Paris, pursuing medicine in London, and exploring religion and philosophy-Philip struggles with feelings of inadequacy and aimlessness.
