Neva: A Bilingual Edition
Synopsis
A politically charged, haunting interrogation of theatre and the revolutionary impulse. This bilingual edition includes the play in its original Spanish as well as Andrea Thorne's English-language translation.
It is the winter of 1905, and three actors, including Anton Chekhov's widow, the actress Olga Knipper, gather in a dimly-lit rehearsal room in St Petersburg to rehearse scenes from The Cherry Orchard as Russia faces an impending revolution.
Neva is a savage examination of the relationship between theatre and historical context. It received its English-language premiere at The Public Theater in New York in 2013, directed by the author.
'The Chilean-born writer and director Guillermo Calderón is an authentic genius of the theater' The New Yorker
