Synopsis

Reflecting on the power of neighborhoods, the thoughtlessness of local governments, and the joys of a community coming together, Tom Morris traces his own journey in local political activism in Denver's South City Park Neighborhood. Morris reaffirms that even when local government has turned its back on a boom-bust city the people can be empowered to re-engage the city as their city.

Tom Morris is a Denver native with four-generations of family history in the city. He was in architectural practice with his father, Robert M. Morris, for 20 years and then a sole proprietor of his own practice until he retired in 2004. He specialized in un-staffed public buildings in parks, along highways and bus stops. His buildings became the standard for parks all over the state. His clients included local and state government, non-profits providing social services, families wanting a new home and anything else he could lure to his services.
