Synopsis

Made on the occasion of the exhibition held in Rome at the "Galleria del Laocoonte" from April 11 th to July 7 th, 2014, the volume reproduces approximately fifty works of one of the most original Italian artists active between the two wars. Drawings, gouaches, watercolors, an oil on cardboard, sketches of architectonic and decorative projects are evidence of a constant work that touches all the chords of style and creativity. "In Sironi" Fabio Benzi writes, "Apollonian classicism merges inseparably with 'anti-classical', even grotesque drama, and the same happens to Enlightenment thinking and romantic irrationalism, platonic beauty and expressionist forcing. The choice of these works on paper gives a perfect idea of the very high quality that Sironi reached in his versatile career." The volume is completed by a series of shots by the American photographer Sanford H. Roth, made in the early Fifties in the artist's house in Milan and now preserved in the Archives of Fabio Benzi.
