Synopsis

Lolly Willowes by Sylvia Townsend Warner is a satirical and feminist novel about a woman named Laura "Lolly" Willowes who escapes the stifling expectations of her conventional family to live independently in the countryside.

After years of dutifully serving her relatives, Lolly moves to a village called Great Mop, where she embraces her true self and discovers a connection with witchcraft and the Devil-symbolizing her liberation from societal norms. The novel explores themes of female autonomy, freedom, and resistance against patriarchal control with wit and quiet defiance.
