Life Drawing Life: On Seeing/drawing the Human

This is a book about life, not just about drawing from life. For forty years I have drawn the naked human body in all its variations on the human theme: white, black, male, female, fat, thin, young and old. It led me to doing ever less looking-at and ever more seeing--seeing humans in wonder and reverence. So that is the body you have to live in, has often gone through my head. the seeing and the drawing gradually became the single undivided act I called seeing/drawing...an ongoing meditation by hand and eye combined that taught me more about life than any psychologizing and philosophizing.- Frederick Franck
