Synopsis

This is the first edition of the Estoire de Brutus (13th century), the earliest French prose Brut. The Estoire's author was aware of Wace's verse Brut (12th century), but his work was interpolated in a copy of the Histoire ancienne jusqu'a Cesar and shares its historical ambitions and style.
