L'Eloquence Des Pierres: Usages Litteraires De l'Inscription Au Xviiie Siecle

This work focuses on the period stretching from the quarrel of the inscriptions (1670) to the publication of Champollion's discovery (1822). It studies the semantic, pragmatic, and memorial values of the inscriptions before tackling the way in which they were recuperated by the book.
