L'Ecole des maris pokes fun at an old-fashioned man who attempts to isolate and lock up his charge, who is slated to become his wife; he fails, as Arnolphe will fail in L'Ecole des femmes. Les Facheux is the first example of the new comedie-ballet genre, which combines spoken dialogue, music, and dance.
