The fifth volume of A la recherche du temps perdu, which appeared in 1923, is the first of the three posthumous volumes. Behind closed doors, in a strange atmosphere of suspicion, Albertine, the elusive captive, lives side by side with the hero who is locked in the hell of jealousy but whose vocation will soon emerge.
