A rogue knight named Vallon accepts a dangerous commission: He must travel Europe in search of six rare hawks to be bartered for the life of an English prince held captive in Constantinople. Accompanied by an English falconer and a Sicilian scholar, Vallon sets out in search of the birds; and cross raging seas, march into furious battles, and raid opulent castles.
